This weekend the exhibition officially opened in Amsterdam. We started with an inspiring and well-attended public debate at Spui25 on the relevance of church buildings in multi-religious Amsterdam, both in the past and the present. Chaired by Professor Martha Frederiks, short lectures were delivered by Jo Spaans, Birgit Meyer and Daan Beekers. This was followed by a roundtable discussion with Mehmet Yamali (spokesperson of the Fatih Mosque) and Tim Vreugdenhil (pastor and entrepreneur), together with Birgit Meyer and Daan Beekers. After a short introduction on the background of the Ignatiushuis by the architect Michael Nefkens, we moved to the Ignatiushuis for the opening of The Urban Sacred in Amsterdam. Thanks to everyone attending and to all who contributed to this joyful day!
